Race report Engelberg
What a week for the Nidwalden mountain biker Alessandra Keller (28). First, she celebrated a victory in the Short Track at the World Cup in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, and a third place in the race over the Olympic distance. Then came the well-deserved selection for the Olympic Games in Paris, and to top it off, she secured a clear home victory in front of a local audience at the ÖKK BIKE REVOLUTION in Engelberg.
The world number 1 took the lead at the start of the race and celebrated an undisputed victory. Seraina Leugger and Linda Indergand followed in second and third place, over two minutes behind. "It was incredibly fun to ride in front of so many fans, fan club members, and friends. I really enjoyed the last lap!" said the Central Swiss rider at the finish.
Marcel Guerrini also celebrated a start-to-finish victory. Immediately after the start loop, he pulled away from his pursuers and built a lead of over 30 seconds, showcasing his excellent form. Behind Guerrini, an exciting battle for second place unfolded. Nino Schurter, who was consistently in the chasing group, ultimately secured second place. Timon Rüegg and Luca Schätti, who steadily worked their way up from eighth and ninth positions, finished third and fourth, respectively. Unfortunately, Lars Forster had bad luck: a flat tire two laps before the end dropped him from second to sixth place.
Over 600 active bikers and several thousand fans enjoyed a great weekend in Engelberg despite the changeable weather. The national mountain bike festival not only offers top-level sports but also many activities for children and amateur athletes.
The third race of this year's ÖKK BIKE REVOLUTION season will take place in Davos on June 29th and 30th.
